When these behaviors move beyond typical expectations, early educators must be prepared to meet each child’s needs by providing developmentally appropriate environments. Understanding the signs and symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and the tools educators can use for developmentally appropriate behavior management, is an important way to meet all children’s needs.

Children learn best when teachers cater to their interests and abilities. “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle is a favorite children’s book which lends itself to a variety of hands-on learning opportunities in all developmental domains. Participants will leave prepared to help children explore interests created after reading “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle.

Guiding Children’s Behaviors - Active Supervision

Early educators have a responsibility to protect children and keep them safe. Active supervision requires focused attention and consistent observation, never leaving a child unattended. Educators will develop skills which will strengthen their active supervision policies and practices as a result of this presentation.

Simple Sign Language

In this training, participants will learn about American Sign Language and how the use of multiple modes of communication can benefit all learners. Through fun and engaging activities, participants will learn 20 simple signs that are useful in an early childhood setting. Using current research and a variety of resources, this training will discuss how using sign in the early childhood classroom supports children with special needs. Participants will learn strategies for teaching signs to young children and engaging families.

Fostering Family and Community Partnerships

Becoming an advocate for parents and children is an important way each of us can meet the needs of children and their families and contribute in a positive way to future generations. “It takes a village to raise a child.”

Using Children’s Literature to Support Social and Emotional Development

Promote the social-emotional development of children from birth to age five, using popular children’s books. Participants will discover hands-on ways to embed social-emotional skill building activities into everyday routines. Become more “intentional” about supporting children’s social emotional development in developmentally appropriate ways.
