[ Maryland's Family Child Care Regulations ]

Who Are We?

The MSFCCA is a professional organization of dedicated volunteers who work on behalf of the thousands of registered family child care providers in Maryland.  These volunteers donate their time and energy to make family child care a visible and respected profession.  The Goals and Purposes of the MSFCCA are:

The Board of Directors consists of the President, Vice President of Public Policy, Vice President of Education, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer and a Director from each member county (if designated by that county).  The Directors meet quarterly to vote on policies and positions of the MSFCCA.  Although only the members of the Board of Directors may vote on a given issue, all family child care providers are invited to attend meetings usually held on the last Saturday of the month in January, April, July and October.  Call the MSFCCA President for confirmation of time, date and location.

The Public Policy Committee, chaired by the Vice President of Public Policy, is your active voice in Annapolis.  During each session, bills are reviewed that may affect children and family child care providers.  These volunteers stay alert to advise elected officials on matters concerning family child care.  They are also active in assisting the Office of Child Care (MSDE), Maryland Committee for Children and other groups regarding policy decisions.

The Education Committee, chaired by the Vice President of Education, is dedicated to bringing you the highest quality annual training conference possible.  Information concerning this conference is passed along to you through your local association, as well as mailed to each registered provider due to the generosity of MSDE/OCC.  This committee also assists local associations with technical advice and leadership training to enable them to provide high quality assistance to their members.

The Public Relations Committee, is responsible for any surveys of local associations, Provider Appreciation Day activities, Information Packets for new Officers, the MSFCCA Quarterly Newsletter, web site, public awareness, volunteer recruitment, and any Week of the Young Child activities.  The MSFCCA offers these events/services when volunteer chairpersons exist to organize them.  Please consider assisting with one of these items.

SUPPORT NETWORK

In addition to moral support for work that sometimes can be isolating, frustrating, and overwhelming, local associations are a major source of information and education for providers.  MSFCCA and local associations often help providers with communication with the Office of Child Care (MSDE), with professional training, and the purchase of discount supplies.  Many associations offer seminars that are designed to help you maintain, improve or expand your business or early childhood knowledge.  Topics of these workshops may include tax preparation, legal issues, first aid, CPR, curriculum development, and marketing your business.  Associations also offer opportunities to network with experienced child care providers.
